This area which is situated at the foot of Minshan Mountains, had to be rebuilt as the old town of Diexi was devastated in a massive earthquake killing about 9000 people & the town sank into what is now, Diexi Lake

Maoxian County is home to the largest number of Qiang minority people in West China. Their recorded history dates back as far as the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046B.C.)
